Walk 5b of the Cherry Pie Walks including the Tree of Life.

A longer, tougher walk than 5A (5 3/4 miles, climbing 906ft) extending Walk 5A to higher altitudes with great views. An ideal walk to work up a good appetite before dinner in the Cherry Pie.

From the Cherry Pie Inn cross the Mold-Denbigh road and follow the signposted footpath. The sign is partially concealed by a lilac bush.

Go straight ahead passing a hillock or "boncyn" (2) on the left with a stand of ancient beech trees (Bryn Rhug).

At the end of the road with  Nannerch Lodge (3) on your right turn right and follow the road to the next junction. Turn left for a few paces and cross a stile (4) and go through a gate. Walk on gaining altitude and crossing another stile over the fence on your right (6).

As you approach some woods avoid the gate on the right and walk on the left of the fence (5) to an abandoned cottage. Walk along the track passing the cottage on your left. Continue to the road (7). Turn right and continue to the junction and Ty Bryn Goleu (8). Turn left starting your climb towards Bryn Golau. Pass an old chapel on your right (9) and go through a small copse to a stile where you go through a gate on the right. (Please leave the gate as you find it). Walk on for a few yards and pass through another gate on your left. Walk on and the Tree of Life - Pen-y-Bwyd stands out in the middle of the field (10).

Retrace your steps to the gate above the old chapel and turn right for the climb towards Bryn Golau. Cross a stile (11). At point 12 take the gate on the left and at point 13 take the gate on the right, proceeding along a little-used track.

Cross several stiles and pass through gates (14). Find a gap in the fence (where there should be a stile) (15) and turn left past a barn towards the old chapel you passed earlier.

Turn right retracing your steps to Ty Brun (8) and turn right. Carry on to Ty Ffron - Fron House and cross a stile on your left (16).

Follow the path to another stile (17) and pass through woodland with wigwams (18) and then a weir before rejoining the road at Nannerch Lodge. Follow the road back to the Cherry Pie.

Not all paths on this walk are well maintained and can be muddy after wet weather. Boots are recommended.

Parking: Cherry Pie Inn, the Old Mill, the Rising Sun car parks.
